Why This Research Exists

AI is transforming knowledge work, but most of the conversation is driven by vendors selling tools and analysts forecasting disruption. There is very little rigorous, independent evidence about what is actually happening to the people doing the work.

How the Studies Work

Six interconnected studies measure different dimensions of AI's impact on knowledge work. Together they produce an AI Position Map that reveals how vulnerability, adoption, friction, enablement, risk calibration, and data readiness interact for a specific individual and team.

The research uses a continuous cross-sectional design with optional longitudinal follow-up. Recruitment occurs through the website, social media, professional networks, conferences, and book readership. The sample is not a probability sample and should not be interpreted as globally representative.

Forced choices between two valid approaches, eliminating agreement bias to reveal genuine preferences.

Scenario Vignettes

Realistic workplace situations that assess actual behavioral patterns rather than aspirational beliefs.

MaxDiff (Best-Worst Scaling)

Rank-order preferences with higher discriminative power than simple rating scales.

Confidence Calibration

Compares stated confidence with measured exposure, revealing blind spots invisible in conventional surveys.

Scoring & Archetypes

The framework uses dimensional scoring rather than single-score reduction. Each study produces multiple independent dimensions, recognizing that individuals with identical total scores but different dimension patterns are fundamentally different.

Archetypes emerge from dimensional patterns, not averages. A close-second profile feature captures adjacent patterns, acknowledging rather than masking ambiguity for respondents near dimension midpoints.
