Proxy.Me: Agentic AI Digital Apprentices

From Proxy.Me: Agentic AI Digital Apprentices, Appendix E

Glossary and Quick Reference

The book's full vocabulary in one place, and the quick reference that distills the operating model onto a few pages.

A Shared Vocabulary

Every operating model needs precise language, or its ideas dissolve into the vocabulary people already have: "agent," "automation," "AI tool." Proxy.Me introduces a small set of terms, Kinetic Organization, Proxy, Role, Scenario, the Mesh, the Work Graph, that name the mechanisms the book describes and keep them distinct from the generic AI vocabulary already crowding the enterprise.

This appendix does two things. It distills the operating model into six one-line takeaways, one per part of the book, as a quick reference. And it collects the working glossary used throughout the site: the core terms, where each is introduced in the book, and a working definition. For the full, searchable version of this glossary with filtering, see the interactive glossary on Inside the Book.

Quick Reference: The Operating Model in Six Lines

One key insight per part, in order. Together they trace the book's argument from diagnosis to consequence.

Part I · Why Organizations Stop Moving

Corporate amnesia is not inevitable. It is a design failure, and a reversible one. When knowledge flows, it compounds.

Part II · The Shift in Physics

A job description specifies what someone is expected to do. A Kinetic Role tells someone how to think. A job description supports employment. A Kinetic Role supports momentum.

Part III · The Kinetic Organization

Traditional organizations orchestrate through meetings. Kinetic Organizations orchestrate through structure.

Part IV · Organizational Motion and Intelligence

Leadership ceases to be about holding everything together. It becomes the act of designing a self-assembling system.

Part V · Sustaining Motion at Scale

Trust becomes the rational reaction to a system that provides explainability, coherence, and transparency.

Part VI · Work in the Age of Abundant Intelligence

The most dangerous failure mode of this era is not malicious automation. It is the illusion of control.

Working Glossary

Sixteen core terms from across the book. Not exhaustive, the full glossary runs longer inside the paperback, but every term an early reader is likely to need while working through this site.

Kinetic Organization
The book's central idea
An enterprise designed for continuous motion. Roles carry curated judgment, apprentices carry the work, Scenarios set the operating context, and the Work Graph shows how it all actually moves. In a kinetic organization pressure is absorbed into work instead of converted into friction, so the system gets faster under load, and knowledge compounds instead of leaving with people.
Static Organization
Chapter 1 · When the System Stops Moving
The enterprise most of us work in today. Knowledge sits in heads and documents, reasoning stays invisible, and every piece of work must be pushed past clarifications, approvals, and meetings before anything moves. A static system will always return to its original shape unless the shape itself is changed, which is why adding AI tools to it produces activity, not momentum.
Proxy
Chapter 10 · The Role Proxy
A digital apprentice tied to the Role, not the person. It manages durable work tickets, maintains context and memory, coordinates with other apprentices, learns from escalation, and keeps working within authorized boundaries even when its human partner is unavailable. When someone leaves, the next occupant inherits a trained apprentice, not a blank slate.
Digital Apprentice
Chapter 10 and Appendix D · The A/U/A Ladder
What a Proxy becomes as it earns trust, following the oldest model humanity has for transferring judgment. It starts as an Assistant that drafts and retrieves, becomes an Understudy that prepares work for approval, and graduates to an Apprentice that carries real cases within authorized boundaries.
Kinetic Role
Chapter 9 · The Anatomy of a Kinetic Role
A decision-making mechanism, not a title with a task list. A Kinetic Role is a living reasoning system: Lenses that shape interpretation, Veto Lenses that hold the boundaries, Points of View that can be configured, and Scenarios that reshape how it thinks. A job description supports employment; a Kinetic Role supports momentum.
Lenses
Chapter 9 · The Anatomy of a Kinetic Role
Interpretive frameworks that convert ambiguity into structure. Lenses do not tell the Role what to do; they tell the Role how to see, so that decisions stay consistent no matter who, or what, is carrying the work that day.
Veto Lens
Chapters 9 and 22 · Governance in Motion
The boundary that never moves. Veto Lenses are the safety valves of the architecture: non-negotiable constraints that make catastrophic outcomes structurally unlikely rather than merely punishable after the fact.
The Mesh
Chapter 18 · How Collective Capability Emerges
What forms when every Role has an apprentice: direct machine-to-machine coordination, with smart flags routing work and reasoning traveling across the organization at machine speed. Individual assistants create individual productivity; the mesh is what changes the system.
Work Graph
Chapter 13 · A Map of Motion, Not Tasks
Org charts show reporting lines. The Work Graph shows how work actually moves, built from thousands of apprentice observations across the mesh. It reveals where flow accelerates, where it stalls, and where the enterprise is structurally vulnerable.
Scenario
Chapter 11 · The World the Work Happens In
The operating context that reshapes how Roles think. A Role decides who acts; a Proxy decides how the work is carried; a Scenario decides which world they are acting in. When the world changes, routing and priorities change across the whole mesh.
Persona
Chapter 5 · The Human as Catalyst
The human in the Role. A Persona is known not by the work they produce but by the judgment and taste they bring to each decision that shapes it. In the kinetic organization the Persona is the catalyst who teaches the system, not the executor who carries every task.
Curation
Chapter 6 · Curated Logic, Not Opaque Authority
The ongoing refinement of how a Role thinks: teaching the Proxy the lenses, exceptions, and standing decisions that make the Role effective. Curation converts knowledge trapped in individual heads into logic that travels with the work, and it is the new core skill of senior practitioners.
Structural Inertia
Chapter 1 · When the System Stops Moving
The accumulated clarifications, approvals, and safeguards that raise the activation energy required to start anything. Each one made sense in isolation; together they are the reason work stalls at the point of initiation rather than the point of execution.
Coordination Tax
Chapter 4 · The AI Productivity Trap
The share of knowledge-work time, roughly 60 to 65 percent, consumed by handoffs, meetings, status reconstruction, and finding context. It is the largest unclaimed margin in the enterprise, and it is untouched by tools that only accelerate individual tasks.
Durable Case
Chapter 12 · Dynamic Workflows
Every act of knowledge work captured as a persistent, managed ticket rather than scattered across email, chat, and memory. The case is the atom of organizational motion: it carries context, reasoning, and status wherever the work goes next.
Attestation
Chapter 22 · Governance in Motion
The record that makes autonomous action auditable: who authorized what, under which boundaries, with which outcome. Attestation is how trust in an apprentice becomes a measured property instead of a feeling.
