UC67: Approval Rate Bias Monitor

The Problem

Approval patterns may reveal unconscious bias: certain requestors approved faster/more frequently, certain departments scrutinized more heavily, certain vendors rubber-stamped, certain cost centers rejected disproportionately. Disparate treatment exposes organization to compliance risk (fairness, discrimination) and operational inefficiency (slow approvals for some, fast for others). Current audits are anecdotal; systematic bias analysis is rare.

What the Agent Does

Ingests 12+ months of approval workflow logs: invoice approvals, PO approvals, payment approvals, expense approvals
Captures approval metadata: requestor ID, requestor department/level, amount, category, vendor (if applicable), assigned approver, approval time, approval decision (approved/rejected), approval cycle time
Calculates approval metrics by dimension:
By Requestor: Approval rate (% approved), cycle time (days to approval), rejection rate
By Department: Approval rate, cycle time, rejection rate
By Amount Band: Approval rate (are larger requests approved less frequently?), cycle time (are higher amounts scrutinized longer?)
By Category: Approval rate by expense/PO category, cycle time
By Vendor: Approval rate for top vendors, cycle time (vendor rubber-stamping?), approval consistency
By Approver: Approval rate, cycle time, rejection rate (are certain approvers more restrictive?)
Performs statistical analysis:
Identifies outliers: Requestor with 50% rejection rate vs. peer group at 2% rejection rate
Flags disparities: Department A average 5-day approval cycle vs. Department B 10-day cycle
Detects patterns: Vendor X rubber-stamped 100% approval vs. peer vendors 95% approval
Generates bias analysis report showing approval metrics by dimension with statistical significance testing
Escalates outliers for management review: unexplained disparities warrant investigation
